Midwife...is she a doctor???

My fiancee are having a disagreement...he says that midwives are not doctors, they can not prescribe medications....I say yes they are as i went to a midwife when my daughter was born(she is now 8) and she prescribed me medications/narcotics...during and after pregnancy...the only thing they can not do is a c-section but they have a doctor on call when absoultely necary by midwifes standards. i went thro all natural 27 hours of l birth. the difference between doctors and midwife doctors is midwives stay with you throughout the birth and have time to REALLY talk to you. I went through a regular doctor with my son and it was a much better experince...I had EPIDURAL but my question is are midwives doctors?
