How did they get the strange effect in the intro scene of Black Swan?

When the movie just begins, we see Nina dancing in a darkly lit stage. Especially when the camera zooms in on her feet, there seems to be a strange effect where the movements seem sped up but barely to make the movements seem almost choppy. How did the director get this effect and how could I replicate it?
